TFS The Free Spirits Seam Sealing Service

For some shipments, sealant cannot be included in the parcel due to air-transport regulations—so if you’re sealing at home, you’ll need to buy seam sealer yourself. If you’d rather not DIY, choose this £30 seam sealing service and we’ll seal the fly for you before dispatch.

Many TFS flysheets use double-sided silicone-coated fabric, which can’t be machine seam-taped because the surface is too slippery for tape bonding and standard production seam sealing. Instead, seams must be hand-sealed with liquid sealant. TFS also uses a special sewing thread that swells slightly when wet, helping the stitch line tighten for better water resistance—however, in prolonged, heavy rain, small seepage can still occur if seams are not sealed.

What we use

We use Gear Aid Seam Grip FC Fast Cure Sealant (for nylon and polyester tents), imported from the USA.

Processing time

Seam sealing requires drying/curing time and typically adds around 3 days before the tent ships.
